The AttoGroup Story

The AttoGroup is composed of four leading laboratories that specialise in DNA testing, toxicology, gene copy number analysis, and more. Founded by Dr. Thomas Haizel, the group has a shared mission to make the latest scientific advancements accessible to all through constant innovation. This is our story.

  1. 1989

    Thomas Haizel, founder of the AttoGroup, establishes major scientific credentials. He earns a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.

  2. 1996

    Dr. Thomas Haizel earns his PhD from the Friedrich Miescher Institute (University of Basel in Switzerland).

    1996

    Dr. Thomas Haizel becomes a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.

    1998

    Dr. Thomas Haizel heads to the UK and becomes a Postdoctoral Fellow at The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich Research Park.

  3. 2000

    Dr. Thomas Haizel works as a Molecular Geneticist at the John Innes Centre, Norwich Research Park.

    2004

    Dr. Thomas Haizel earns an MBA at Henley Management College, England.

    2004

    Dr. Thomas Haizel incorporates Anglia DNA Services Limited on 31st March 2004, carrying out DNA relationship testing, based in the Genome building at the Norwich Research Park.

    2005

    The company achieves UKAS accreditation for DNA relationship testing, and Ministry of Justice approval to carry out testing under Section 20 of the Family Law Reform Act 1969.

  4. 2011

    A new company, AssureDNA, launches, selling paternity and maternity tests in Boots. It is the first over-the-counter DNA paternity test in the UK.

    2012

    Dr. Thomas Haizel acquires IDna Genetics Ltd., a company focused on gene copy number analysis, food identity verification, and GMO detection.

    2016

    Anglia DNA relocates to Scottow Enterprise Park, which is on the site of former RAF Coltishall in November 2016. The offices and laboratories are based in the old medical centre.

    2016

    Nkaarco Diagnostics is set up to become a leading genetic testing company with services including a range of lifestyle DNA tests and pharmacogenetics tests.

  5. 2020

    When the global Covid-19 pandemic is declared by the WHO in March 2020, staff at Anglia DNA explore if there is a way they can assist. From humble beginnings testing swabs from local care homes and GP surgeries, the company continues to conduct over a million COVID tests.

    2024

    The AttoGroup is born, seeing IDna Genetics rebrand to AttoLife, Claritest to AttoSure, Nkaarco to AttoDiagnostics, and IDna to AttoDNA.
